Frequently Asked Questions

What body areas can be treated?

The face, neck, chest, arms, hands, legs, back, etc., any area except directly under the eyes.

What are the treatment sessions like? Is it painful?

Quick and easy! After your initial preparation, Dr. Keefer will move the pulsed light over your skin. Emitted light breaks up the pigment in the lesions. For hair removal, the light loosens the hair and disables the cells responsible for new growth. Most people perceive the light as a gentle "snapping" sensation, causing very little to no discomfort. A flashing light and an audible tone will tell you when each beam of light is pulsed through your skin.

What should I expect after treatment?

Spots will darken slightly, and then fade away after 10-14 days. Visible veins generally undergo immediate graying or blanching and the vessels fade after about 10-14 days. Most people experience some mild temporary redness and swelling, similar to a sunburn. This does not interfere with normal activities and usually subsides within a day. Dr. Keefer will explain all side effects at your free consultation visit.

What is the difference between pulsed light and laser treatments?

These produce a very similar result. However, pulsed light is not a laser. It uses a newer technology that can treat a much wider area of the skin, resulting in a much quicker removal of lesions.
